CCADA - Advanced Driving Academy - Bronze Vehicle Control plus Defensive Driving Course (CCADA)

This course is for anyone who wants to improve their driving skills, and not just on slippery roads. The first part of the course is the ‘Introduction to Car Control’ course, and teaches how to control any vehicle in any situation.

The course concentrates on teaching recognition and prevention of under steer and oversteer and how to make this happen and then regain control. This is a much harder skill to learn and is not taught on all so-called skid courses as more space than is usually available is needed to teach it, but a vitally important skill for the driver to master.

For the other half day drivers will be on the public roads with ex police or ADI driving instructors learning driver awareness. This is a defensive driving course as provided to businesses that are aware of the legislation regarding corporate manslaughter and the duty of care they have for their employees.

After taking this course, drivers usually realise there is so much more to learn about car control and be ready for our Silver Intermediate Car Control Course.

The car control course starts with a 20 to 30 minute briefing that includes an explanation of the advantages of ABS, ESC and other electronic driver ‘aids’ and also their failings too. In a Mercedes, for quality assurance drivers are timed before instruction, around a set course including slaloms, long bends, evasive action exercises and down hill on ice.

Drivers then receive instruction on how to recognise and control understeer and oversteer, front or rear wheel skids, not just how to recognise and prevent them from happening but also how to control skids at higher speeds.

At the end of the course drivers are timed again on the original settings, to see if there is any improvement on the original run. This can be very surprising. We are not trying to turn anyone into racing drivers; we are teaching ‘vehicle control.’ Speed is a measurement of new skills in vehicle control and part of quality assurance.

For the other section of the course, drivers move onto the public roads with ex police or ADI driving instructors learning driver and hazard awareness. We point out situations to be aware of, planning ahead, vehicle positioning, confirm and help your understanding of road signs, road rage prevention skills and more. This is a defensive driving course with continuous assessment as provided to businesses that are aware of the legislation regarding corporate manslaughter and the duty of care they have for their employees.
