CCSI - Silver Intermediate Vehicle Control Tuition Course (CCSI)

This course follows on from the Bronze introduction to car control. After completing the bronze course, participants join this course with a good basic understanding and feel for vehicle control. The course starts with a 20 to 30 minute briefing, recapping on the theory of understeer and oversteer, an explanation of what to expect during the course including electronic aids and how they can help and then out to the skid control vehicle.

After a quick refresher it's onto evasive action exercises, with and without the vehicle electronics switched on (ABS, Traction control and ESP), demonstrating where in certain conditions the electronics can do most of it for you but also where in other conditions your abilities as a driver are far more important, much better than the electronics!

Next comes what we call ‘downhill on ice ‘exercises, damage limitation exercises, putting into practise real life scenarios. We also complete a timed run pre and post instruction, usually simulating understeer, something that happens to both front and rear-wheel drive cars. At the end of the course, all drivers are again timed, (with the participant’s spectators in the car too), to see if there is any improvement on the original run. This can be very surprising. We are not tying to turn anyone into racing drivers; we are teaching ‘vehicle control.’ Speed is a measurement of new skills in vehicle control, and part of quality assurance.

After completing this course, drivers again usually realise there is so much more to learn about car control and will then be ready to tackle our Gold Advanced Car Control Course.
