The idea of The Manby Top Gear Challenge is to have a bit of fun but to test out drivers’ skills. The challenge is suitable for all drivers - young or old, male or female, racey or steady (but please note, slow and steady isn’t going to win!).
The skid car can be set to simulate the same driving conditions week in and week out, and you can choose to drive on three different road conditions;
- Dry weather setting – the car will not start to loose grip or slide unless being pushed hard
- Damp weather setting – the car will slide at lower speeds
- Very slippery setting – Crikey, hang on to your seats!
Penalties will be applied for various reasons, including hitting the cones or Driving Miss Daisy!
There are 3 Challenge Titles up for grabs – as well as an extra bit of fun, crowning the fastest male and female! On a date to be announced, (December 2009) the top 20 drivers will be notified and invited to return to Manby Motorplex for a final showdown! The same settings will be applied to the skid car and all drivers will be reaquired to complete laps of the course to decide the final winners.
The top 3 drivers will receive a voucher for the Bronze Car Control Course. (Or Silver if Bronze has already been completed).

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The settings will emphasis any driver errors made and NO tuition will be given at any point during your lap. No clues here, but typically on a Bronze Car Control Course using similar road condition settings to those above, times can be anything from 15 to 75 seconds quicker after tuition!

leaderboard on the website to see how your time compares with that of your competitors! If you have photos taken during or after the challenge, and are happy for us to publish them on the website, send them to us and we'll post them in the competitors gallery!
If you would like to take part in the Manby Motorplex Top Gear Challenge, all it costs is just £10 per lap or £15 for 2 laps (taken on the same day).
